San Joaquin County Jail Intake Expansion Project
San Joaquin County
The San Joaquin County Jail Expansion Project, completed in the fall of 2003, consisted of the construction of a 133-bed inmate housing unit that integrates with and physically connects to the existing Sheriff’s Operations Center and Jail Complex. The two-story, 35,890 square foot addition was situated in the center of the existing jail facility, requiring that construction of the new inmate housing unit take place without interruption of normal operations at the existing jail. KSN provided all civil engineering services required for the expansion project improvements including paving and concrete flatwork, grading, on-site and off-site drainage, water and sewer utility systems. KSN’s scope of work also included updating and modifying the county-owned drawing originally used to construct the Sheriff’s Operations Center and Jail Complex, for which KSN had also provided the civil engineering services. The completed expansion is consistent with both these original design documents and the Correctional Facility Master Plan. Total construction costs were approximately $9 million.
